Very long history worthwhile when creating a world?
You can create a much longer history in the detailed world settings than the 500 years of simple world generation.

The question I have now is whether it makes any sense at all to generate a very long history for a world. Does it lead to a lot of repetition, which is not so immersive? I am aware that this can take a very, very long time, but I would take that into account if it is worth it.

Longer history means civilizations spread further, you have more towers popping up, a lot more historical figures and events to make into statues and engravings. On the other hand, it also usually means there are fewer big beasts in the world, as they get slowly killed off.

There are several different eras in the game that your world can be in, depending on how fantastical (or not) it is. I once managed to generate a dead world, where I could adventure for hours and not find anyone, or you can have a world of just humans (because they killed everyone else) and so on.

The main issue with long histories isn't stagnation, it's that worlds take exponentially longer to generate, save, and load worlds as your history length increases. Trying to generate a 2000 year world will probably take hours and saving would take a very long time. You'd probably have to turn auto saving off, especially if you're not using an SSD.

No; it's not that it gets repetitive, but that it's difficult to see the impacts. I like 250 because it's always been 250 so that's the one I like. And 500 take tooooo long lol.

With no Adventure Mode currently, there's no real way to actively participate in the vast swathes of history as it's occuring.

Furthermore, longer worlds will have fewer megabeasts because they are created at the start of the world and die to various generations of heroes over the centuries. And they're fun to see.

You can if you want. But there's no benefit over 250, except for a richer world you ultimately won't see much of, personally, unless you're the type who gets a lot out of Legends mode.

okay. The history generation is capable of a bit more than I originally thought. Is there a good guide for advanced world generation? While I'm learning the game, I'd be interested in that aspect as well.

The thing with the Beasts is interesting. I had intuitively also found 250 years quite good for the start.

You can see it quite practically. Worlds start in the Age of Myth, when fantastical beasts are mostly still alive. Most 100 Worlds start in the middle of Age of Myth.

Typically, 250 starts at late Myth, or early Age of Legends. I had a 250 go from Myth, to Legends, back to Second Age of Myth again, because the fantasy creatures were winning lol. That's why I like 250.
