Game feels nerfed
Does anyone else feel like the game was somehow nerfed? Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I talked to my friend about it and we brought up some points about how it's almost impossible to have the dwarves break down or get upset, you're barely ever attacked, every location seems to have all the minerals immaginable, dwarves are master swimmers and divers.
It's all those little details that makes it seem like the game just seems a little too easy.

I did notice the default mineral frequency in basic world gen has changed from "scarce" in old versions to "everywhere" in the steam one.

Feels a tiny bit easier but then military dwarves have been OP for a long time. You seem to need a relatively high export before the goblins get particularly feisty.

Also the default world gen is set to Everywhere now, but that's entirely within your power to change. I set it to frequent, but it used to be sparse.

Dwarves.... Are not master swimmers. Mine still sink like rocks lol.

i survived the spiked wood ball stock exchange crash on the releaseday, so nothing can shock me in this version anymore

My buddy told me how he accidently dug up a river bed in the winter, when it melted in the spring, his whole fort was flooded but nobody drowned. they were able to all hold their breaths for 5 minutes irl while he dug up a staircase to get back above ground and didn't lose a single person.

Yeah. It feels more manageable though.
Like it's not ready to ♥♥♥♥ itself and fps die as soon.

Mineral scarcity and enemy hostility are tweakable with settings. The default settings on the new version are substantially easier than what most veterans are probably accustomed to. Definitely tweak mineral scarcity substantially if you don't want to be finding every single thing your heart desires in the first few layers of digging.

Sure well, maybe, I had one guy fall in the river when it unfroze and he drowned instantly.

Embarking in savage biomes is the new hard mode, as doing too much on their causes the final scene in James Cameron's avatar to happen.

I have not had the same experience with swimming. Dwarves are drowning as expected.
Dwarf fortress is only as hard as you make it for yourself. Honestly. Always has been.

I don't own the new version, but even in the old version of DF, Dwarves only really die if you're very, very careless with them. I once had an issue where they'd keep dying in the mines.

Turns out it was because they were dehydrated though. Took me two worlds to figure that one out, lmfao.

Agreed. I managed to get my 2nd fort up to 200 population, and now the game just plays itself with no issues. I can go afk for half an hour, and my fort is still standing and nothing has happened.

Sounds like you read about dwarf fortress more than you've actually played it because its not as generally as dangerous or as difficult as people make it out to be and really hasn't been in ages.
Especially now that they removed the most difficult part: the controls. Bahaha.

this you get, when you set your world too easy...
yes, when you set it in such way, to make game easy, you make game easy.. dont make your game easy, when you dont wanna make it easy..

im shocked that ppl need explain it to you O_o but here you have guide how to NOT make your game easy... dont set it to "easy" by settings

I think the tutorial area specifically may have certain things turned off. Like I noticed serpent people are hostile but don't attack in the caverns.
