look at their skills. vampires are pretty skilled so thats prob him.

I dunno if weapons show any info like kills but you can find out that way too. dey murder folks a lot.

Vampires never eat, sleep or drink. They tend to have high social skills. Appoint the legal professions so that people will report sus activity.

One guy will have "Was shocked while seeing 'Person Killed By Vampire' die!" because he's the only one who saw it lol. Filter by mood and read the lowest mood dwarf bios to look for this.

look for someone with weirdly high skills and lots of relationships, vampires tend to accumulate both of those since they live forever and move a lot in world gen. sometimes it says in their thoughts if they did it.

it takes some effort but you could also start locking people in their rooms and wait to find the guy who isn't starving. Also, they don't drink booze so find the sober guy. Afterwards you could put him in a squad on the surface and lock him in a shed until raid come.. or do what I did, create a day care for all your children and watch the chaos ensue

currently the CIV ALERT feature in not in STEAM DF so its hard to force that to happen without manually putting dwarves to squads and moving them to their rooms.

Just make sure that your appointed legal team arent vampires. Otherwise theyll totally ignore it and bleed your fortress dry.

Another good way to find them is to set a trap. section off your dwarves and watch the ones that sleep. Eventually youll find them >:) And remember you can lock doors at any time, so long as an enemy unit hasnt passed through it (i think thats right anyway. that might be a different game?)

i caught a vampire only because he was the super pale sick looking guy and belonged to 15 groups, also he was nervous about not having ate or drank too long. hes been walled off for 7 years now and hasnt died so i got it right lol

The problem I always have with the vampire is that I can find the one that comes to the fortress, but I can't find the ones that the vampire makes. The new vampires. However, once you DO find the vampire. lock him/her up and wall up the cell. Make that vampire your manager/accountant.. Because once it is walled up you have an immortal fortress.

The 'unusually high skills' method isn't optimal, since you will be getting a lot of skilled dwarves in migrant waves, depending on the age and wealth of your fort (though I still mark extremely skilled ones as potential vampires). The way I usually do it is to look for dwarves that lack thoughts related to eating, drinking or sleeping after they've been in the fort for a while.
