Pls explain: The secrets of life and death
Couldn't find an answert to my question in the wiki or via google. I know in world gen individuals can read a book about "the secrets of life and death which will turn them into a necromancer.

Now one of my dwarves created "Thudu Ulet", a stone slab with the secrets of life and death engraven on it. i just put it into my tavern withouth thinking too much.

Will this thing make necromancers out of everyone who reads it? Or do i just have to worry about the guy who made it?

Hm. I'm not sure if they'll read a building. But it sounds like a potential source of FUN if you ask me.

more useful in Adventure mode

yes.
if a dwarf reads that slab, they'll become a necromancer (and, also, immortal as far as aging goes)

however, this normally applies to just books authored by the necromancer, which is something you have to actually let the necromancer do. i'm not sure dwarves can read slabs so you might be fine.

Interesting, I always thought those mysterious books were created only during world creation, and never in any game mode.

What kind of god does the dwarf worship? Maybe his prayers were answered? Give him a quill and some parchment if you want to spread the gift or a curse.

Perhaps it's the same thing as with the book. Whoever engraved the slab might be a necro but the slab itself does nothing. So far nobody in my very high frequented tavern has had any thoughts about the slab. I can't find out who created it, there is nothing mentioned in the artefacts list or on the object itself. I'm gonna stock up on writing material and see where this goes.

The dwarf who created it should be at Legendary skill level.

Maybe it works like a book or something and it has to be read in a library or whatever. Like someone mentioned, if it is built and placed like a building then your dwarves may not read it like normal.

Dorfs don't read Slabs, so it won't turn anyone into a Necromancer because they won't read it. I don't know if that counts for the one who created it or not, but... maybe not. :)

Are you sure one of your dwarves created the slab? The wiki says: “Necromancy books can be found in a necromancer's tower among other types of books, including the original slab which the secrets originated from.”

It seems to me you’ve likely acquired the slab instead of creating it, although if a dwarf in your fort created it, that’s super interesting cuz I didn’t know they could do that.

Since dwarves don’t read slabs you probably won’t have a necromancy dwarf population anytime soon unless you have books on the secrets of life and death and other necromancy books or scrolls.

I'd try putting the slab in a library instead, since it has some odd interaction shenanigans going for it already.

Might actually work through some study activity or whatnot, though just theorizing.
