(My setup for the dump zone is 4x5 with 3 of the 5 over the river over open space.)
I just changed it to be just near the edge but not over it and it worked too.
And how, did you make the dumping zone? Like, where in the menu is that.
To move items out of an area you can use a zone (z menu, garbage dump, then create the area) then use the 4 icon menu (lock, trash can, fire, eyeball, farthest right icon on the hotbar) to trash can (mark items for dumping) and the dwarves will move these items to this designated dump zone area.
- This is useful for moving many stones in a recently mined area to one "dump" area. Mine, then mark a one tile zone, dump the stone, then reclaim (unlock icon) these stones for use.
To move corpses to a specific area, use the corpse stockpile.
The Dump is a "Zone" so it'll be in the Zone menu, the one with the little Dwarf head on it. :)
The Garbage Stockpile is exactly that, a Stockpile of.. garbage. Leave it outside to rot.
Note: If you aren't dumping into a hole, water, or lava, a dump can "fill" up it seems, depending on the number of squares. If you are, then things will "drop" into it. You can't retrieve from lava or water, though. (I haven't done much of this, so don't know all the ins and outs of Dumps. :))
