Report a translation problem
The toggles may be broken, as turning off gather from the tree with a stepladder still results in my dwarves doing it.
They'll eat when they're hungry, or they'll turn the pineapple into a meal or alcohol at your kitchen or still if you have the work bills prepared. Basically you need to tell them what to produce, but all their needs, they take care of themselves with what they have.

EDIT: Just wanted to add that wooden items are so light they can barely hurt anything, wooden arrows are only good for training and can barely hurt wildlife
