So instead of getting pissy about it, go with the flow. Look at his work, and decide if its worth paying for. Personally, I've had a 100% Linux desktop since Ubuntu 4, and have spent years whining about games not having Linux support, and putting up with slightly flakey options to get my way. Proton is one of those, but the reliability is now more like 99%. DF has crashed maybe 4 times since I bought the steam version. But Tarn will get to it, don't moan, enjoy what's there, make clear your desire for a direction of travel in his roadmap, and keep playing (but do make periodic Manual Saves) or not.
Personally, I spent the 25 quid, and will continue to check in and see how he's progressing.

I have seen enough instances where promised native did not come, so my advice is to wait.
That having said, I chose not to wait, and yes it does work via proton good enough.
Basically in every Linux support discussion there is that person telling everyone how they must not ask for native Linux versions because.. Proton exists.
Yeah, it will boot without Vulkan but you're talking like... a 60FPS game might run at 10-15FPS. It's not technically required but it's pretty much required.
This is an important distinction since Linux is often recommended to give older PCs new life.
