How do you make parchment?
I'm trying to make books and scrolls.

I went through the whole process that the DF wiki says.
Specific rocks -> (kiln) quicklime -> (ashery) milk of lime + skin -> (tanner's shop) parchment

I have multiple milk of limes and hides but at the tannery it won't let me create a parchment.

"Requires unrotten parchment-producing body part".

What am I doing wrong?

Hm. I usually go the route of:
Plants to slurry > Slurry to sheets > Sheets to Quern/Scroll

your standing orders might be tanning the hide. You can only make parchment out of raw hide, not tanned leather.

How do you recommend getting slurry plants? That route is much simpler it seems.

Most of the plants that can be processed to thread in a farmers workshop can also be crushed to slurry at a quern or millstone (pigtails grow underground, rope reed, hemp, and maybe some others on the surface). If you are lucky enough to have papyrus on your map, that is even simpler, since it can be made into sheets directly.

Yeah I think my main option is pig tails right now.

Gathering plants out in the overworld seems to work well enough. Doing that once a year, I get enough slurry plants to get a bunch of sheets :D

Way simpler method tbh.

Unfortunately I don't have much water on my surface for the reeds :(

Just gather the whole surface and give the command and try to slurry afterwards. Usually works for me.
