Give the dwarven trade caravan lots of profit and they'll send more migrants next year. Also stop letting everyone die, it's giving you a bad rep.

Have some wealth in the fortress when you speak to the caravan master. When they go back to the capitol, the news about the oppulance of your fort will spread and attract more people.

Donating excessive amounts to the caravan is also like saying haha look how fabulously wealthy we are~

There seems to be an issue with the Merchant never leaving the map after he trades. He sits there forever, and never takes news of your exploits back to the civ, and so you dont get any more migrants. This has happened my first two games. I had a huge amount of wealth last game but was stuck on 17 population...

Anyone have any ideas?

Maybe he can't speak with your leader and is waiting for them?

Hmm... The only other thing I can think of - does he have an office with a table and chair?

Are you keeping an open path to the map edge for the merchants? If they are blocked in when they try to leave they go insane.

Well i do have a merchant in here sitting the same room with his camel not moving hours i played for hours and didn't get another merchant for quite some time now i cant kick him out

This sounds like a bug I ran into twice so far, two fortresses & first trader - the trader will leave.. but then gets stuck on the map. Workaround for me was to deconstruct the trade depot. As soon as that was gone, the merchants actually left. First fortress I didn't do that and had no more traders for years until I abandoned. Second fortress, I deconstructed within a season or so so the first trader left, then I had another trader the next year work properly.

This ALSO seems to affect migrant waves. The first two waves will always come, but future waves maybe are dependent upon the initial trader's report.. so you get no more migrants if the merchants are stuck on your map.

You are a freeking dwarfen super hero. Deconstructing the trade depo made him leave. Thanks. Hopefully I will get migrants now. Thank you.

Chose a civ with a lot of citizens, and settle near one of its sites. Generate a lot of wealth.

I'm having the opposite problem and can't stop the buggers from arriving. So if I stop trade the migration should stop?

you can set your population soft cap in the game settings. You will stop getting migrants above that. Coincidentally this lets you play with a single dorf if you set it to 1 and exile 6 of your starting party.
