Dwarf Fortress

where do I find good spots to grow?
I've tried diggin deeper but im not sure what to look out for. This guide I watched said plump helmets were the best thing to grow but I cant find any soil to plant it in.

I found that you can plant stuff in caverns, on dense floor fungus

It has to be underground soil. That means you can use any floors of type: sand, loamy soil, or anything else that sounds like it may be a granular type of material. (basically not rock or metal)

You can also wet any stone floor up to 1/7 depth and then let it drain. It will become "muddy", you can plant on that.

Of course the cavern soil is the best for dwarven plants, but you don't really want to be rushing down there early game. You *may* have visitors, lol.

good underground soil is anything on the same level as a cavern (you don't necessarily need to go into the cavern - digging out something on that level and getting it muddy should work)
