Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

How do I meet the need for dwarves praying?
I set down an alter in their rooms because I figured they'd just pray to the alter but it says it still isn't met. How do I get their needs met?

You have to build a temple; meeting area > location (little sign with + symbol in the top box) > new temple

Furnish it with altars, statues, engravings. Get the value to a certain amount and they let you put a priest on.

Having individual altars to individual gods works too for dwarves having trouble meeting their needs in a universal temple; don't worry about temples for religious groups right now; if they want a temple, they'll ask with a petition.

I created a room as a meeting area, put a few altars and statues in with instruments and then changed it to a temple so they can pray to all.

Altar in their rooms! Are you f.... crazy?! They need temple, designated and dedicated to specific god, then they will go and prey... You need to read some more information on your dwarfs and get known, which god they worship..

This is my first time really playing DF, and I can see what god they prey to. I'm just new.

Thanks for the information! I'll have to try that.

As I understand it temples only need to meet a wealth requirement and not a furniture requirement but I'm an old player that has only had to learn Temples in the premium version so its new to me and I might be wrong.

you need chest and altar and wealth like in the old version you get the temple asp if you put a artifact on pedestal because you need 2000 points.

Sorry i had to rush off and do something. Yes it works for a general need especially early game but later on you will need dedicated rooms as frank explained. I plan to create smaller rooms with an altar etc within the large one for dwarfs that require a particular god.
