Also make sure you have at least one stockpile with drinks enabled, enabling a stockpile for "food" should have drinks on by default
There was then an empty rock jug and empty wooden barrel stored next to the downstairs Still, and this time I could make some brew for whatever reason.
The Brewdwarf came down, took the rock jug and brewed some alcohol, then he continued to take the empty barrels that it previously didn't seem to recognise and use them this time.
Not sure why it activated now, or if some other variable somewhere affected it.
Aside from this struggle, really enjoying the game, impressive effort to bring this gem to the masses.
I also got the message before that the plants are supposedly rotten, even though I just gathered them. And of course a bit after the game crashed, lol.
When people said losing is fun I wasn't expecting to lose this way. x) Idk maybe I'll wait for fixes or something because this certainly isn't very fun.
I had an empty stockpile near the Still designated for barrels but the Dwarfs weren't transporting any there. The issue was that I had the stockpile set to "Furniture" and then under custom, "type" had only barrels selected, but I also had not selected any of the materials (stone/clay, metal, etc). I selected everything for those, and FINALLY they started moving empty barrels there.
Once that happened, the "Requires Empty Food Storage Item" disappeared and now I have over 100 drinks in stock.
My best guess is that "Requires Empty Food Storage Item" actually mean "Requires Nearby Empty Food Storage Item," or possibly at least on the same floor. Because I was getting this issue when I had a ton of empty barrels in another stockpile a floor up, but once I got the Dwarfs to properly deposit barrels in the stockpile next to the Still, it started working and I was swimming in sweet, sweet booze.
That said, I did have a couple of empty barrels in the Stockpile initially, and still had the issue. But for whatever reason, once I changed the custom settings for the stockpile to properly fill it with empty barrels, the issue went away. Hopefully that helps at least someone!
If it works it works. But I have never had issues with workshops pulling from far off stockpiles. Given what you said it sounds like you had a linked stockpile situation. Where the configuration of the linked stockpile was creating the issue.
Again, if it it works great, but I have had this issue when the stills are set to take from anywhere and empty barrels are available. Something about this problem makes me think that there is a deeper error. Maybe there is a way to clear it, but I still think there is a deeper bug.
That is in and has been from first day on Steam.
