crafting multiple items without manager

i think i know how to use manager by now. if theres something i overlooked and there is a way to do this with manager, please correct me :)

lets say i want to place a few chairs. i dont want to have them in my storage all the time. so i would like to have a way to easily build a few when needed. the only method i know about so far is to place a order for crafting a chair, and then another one, and so on and so on.

is there an easier way?

One of the icons near the order will let you automatize that by setting an especific amount of items to always have in stock. Let's say you always want 10 wooden chairs in stock, just set it to 10 and anytime you're down past 10 de dorf will go back to the workshop

i DONT want to have the items always in stock, i want to build a few at once and then place them afterwards, so i dont clutter my stock.

If you go to the work orders tab in the bottom left and set it to make 5 chairs then it should make 5 chairs then delete the work order. I personally havnt tried this because I want to have 1-2 items in my stockpile so i am ready when i need it.

This was actually a very common mod used in DF by many people, but I do not see a way to plan items that you don't currently have built waiting in a stockpile. A mod called DFHack allowed for this kind of planning, and the workshop may already have it. It's worth looking for this, but the function you're asking for doesn't exist in DF as it is.

I may have misunderstood you, yes. If you want to build something right now you can either queue up 5 chairs in a workshop, or you can use the manager to simply build 5 chairs. It will not repeat by default.

Other people are suggesting ways to keep a certain amount in stock, which is what most people want. That can be done as well.

oh im stupid. didnt realize there was a "one time order" thing in the manager. thats exactly what i wanted.
