Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

How to generate more Joyous Wilds?
I know it's rare and chance is still a factor but are there any specific parameters I can set to better my odds?

If you have to ask why, TLDR is I wanna have some fun with an idea that came to me in a smoky fever dream

Yes this is possible. You will have to go into the "detailed mode" during world generation. There is an overwhelming amount of options there. There is a wiki page[dwarffortresswiki.org], but it is for the old ascii version. I expect however that it will work the same for the current version. You will be looking for the desired good square counts (8.32).

The official dwarf fortress forums have some extensive topics on world generation, but note that the map gen settings uploaded there will be for the old version, the new version will have different results. world gen cookbook thread[www.bay12forums.com]

Note that setting some "detailed mode" world gen settings to unexpected values may lead to map rejections. it may take some trial and error to get things right.

Yep, figured as much. Did some googling already and couldnt quite figure out how to formulate the world settings tho. Maybe i'm just dumb (entirely possible, ngl) x.x

You need to increase the desired good square count in small and medium subregions, it is hard to say by how much because it depends on your map size. Don't go too high, the map might be rejected if the game can not place that amount of good regions. I would start by say, five times the default, and if that works without errors, maybe ten times. Don't forget to save the settings.

When you google you will find many references to world_gen.txt. instead of working with the in game menu you could also edit this file. I think that file is saved in a different location now compared to the old version, under prefs, and only present if you have saved any alternate world settings. make sure you backup the file before messing with it, I don't know if the old world gen format is compatible with the new version.

Thank you so much! I appreciate it :)

I turn on weighted meshes for savagery and go 1 1 2 1 for weights top to bottom then I put desired good medium region squares to 1500-2000 for a large region map and it works pretty decently. My favorite was a joyous wild forest right next to a terrifying mountain biome; was able to split it down the middle. It was pretty fun until the blood rain freaked out the caravans

I just checked and apparently the perfectworldDF[www.bay12forums.com] utility still works fine with this version. That gives you a lot of control on worldgen, including painting of maps, etc. It' does not really have options for painting evil or good areas, but can almost do anything else.

Good luck, I spent hours yesterday generating worlds and messing with settings to try to get my perfect embark, and even still I didn't end up having any hemp. Oh and I've got to deal with agitated giant beasts and beast people all the time. Two years into the fort and the surface is absolutely littered with bones, vomit, blood, body pieces. High savagery places are more brutal than ever before.
