manager needs meager study
I keep getting this notification even though there's a 3x3 office with a door on either side, a table, and a chair and it's assigned to the manager

Is the zone an "office" zone, or something like a dinning room? They use the same furniture (table & chair), but don't count as the same type of room for the purpose of what a noble or administrator will do there.

I had doubled up on the same room and overlapped dining and office. I only had the problem with bookkeeper and manager, so it might be a bug idk. The problem did persist once I had a separate office and dining hall though. I was having trouble uninstalling mods so maybe it was a leftover bug from that ...never had that problem before Im going to try a new seed and see if it persists

okay this just happened again on a new save. - no mods installed whatsoever

Hes no longer cancelling jobs thanksfully but it says he has a meager study assigned, which he does, but also that he needs one. I think it's not changing itself automatically? He had one level above meager at first so I took some furniture out to downgrade it to meet the requirement it wanted but it still wont fix the text in nobles

This exact same thing happened to me. I just purchased Dwarf Fortress via steam and this is my first playthrough. The one thing that may be causing the issue in my case is that the dwarves assigned as Expedition Leader and the Broker are married. As soon as I assign an office to one they are immediately both assigned to the office.

I don't know if this is the same problem than pease but if it is it's just a misunderstanding.

You have correctly assigned an office to your broker and it's an office of enough quality to satisfy her needs, that's why the office icon is green and it says needs meager study in green because it's achieved she has meager or better.
If she had no office at all the icon would be red and it would read no office, needs a meager office written in red
If she had an office but of lower quality of what she needs it would be yellow.

"Needs meager office" is just there to remind you of what she is asking for, it doesn't disappear when you give it to her. Might be useful to have the reminder if you want to change her office for example.

The UI is clunky sometimes, unfotunately.
