aquafier
what is an aquafier in terms of gameplay ive never played the original dwarf fortress and the videos i see on youtube mention not starting in a aquafier. why is this the case and what does it do?

Aquifer is an underground water-producing dirt tile. They're typically an engineering challenge to work around, typically to get to the rock layers beneath.

Aquafiers are a challenge when you are trying to design how you reach past them. Please look into it, they're a pretty hefty challenge, and I don't recommend them for new players, as you already have a lot to deal with.

Yes. If you're brand new, they're not advised for new players. Even experienced players tend to avoid them, because they're a bit more challenging but a lot more tedious.

They are a good source of water thought, say if you want to play with pumps/waterworks, making wells, or flood your entire fort.
