So you're trying to make a well or something?
I mean yah I wanna do something usefull with them. Have an irrigation system. Showers, body removal with a little more class than a ♥♥♥♥ masher.
The problem with most aquifers is that they stop you from digging down, not sideways. If you run into water from digging sideways, stop digging sideways. If you run into an aquifer digging down, you can dig into it and then surround your staircase with water, and keep doing that til you've dug beneath the aquifer, at which point you can dig normally.
You can let them fill up a square and build a well over it, I think.
There's a tool-tip/pop-up for Light Aquifers and I think it gives some instructions. One thing you can aside from building walls is to smooth the walls, which will/should waterproof them as well. (I think)
