If that doesn't pull you in, the game's probably not for you.
did you hear about them?
and youtube is aweswome site, what is FULL of videoclips, even from games. and there is even search bar. you can type there what you want and it will find you clips by that keyword(s). that is how you get your videos.
another thing is Twitch.. that is place, where ppl stream and part of it are ppl who play games, then you actually can watch them play and comment that game. and again, that site have search bar. isnt it awesome?

One of us. One of us. One of us.
When you inevitably lose (which in Dwarf Fortress is FUN), you can go to Legends mode to read up on the unique named monster that slaughtered your dwarves and see that monster's whole life story and how it ties up with the history of the world, as well as the stories of any other named character or creature in the world.
There are so many ways to interact with the world and such freedom to do what you want that it always generates interesting stories to tell. This is why even losing is fun.
And then there's the Adventure mode (not yet available in the Steam version but it's coming and has been in the classic version of the game for a long time). In the Adventure mode you control one character in a roleplaying sandbox way. I once was a swan man who travelled around singing to people and they hated my singing so I killed them, enjoying the combat reports because of the crazy detailed anatomy system that makes fights seem brutal.
