Did you assign them a burrow that prevents them from accessing their job sites?

Try deleting the tasks and making them fresh again. They can just abandon jobs when mood gets to low or other circumstances. Just starting the job fresh after deleting it is the "Have you tried turning it off and on again" of DF.

tried it but it didn't work. after i tried that i noticed a spot where dwarves were just walking through walls and such. think the game is bugging pretty hard rn

I have had this happen 5 times now, its game breaking and its just annoying to play at this point. Reset the game and they will start to work for a few mins, then back to being broken for me.

sounds like i should wait for a patch or something then. kinda disheartening to wait so long for this game for it to bug so hard like that but it is what it is. hopefully the devs take notice of it and put a patch out soon

Well, it´s to be expected given incredibly complicated the code is and how much is going on.
There is a point like this in many similator games where at first everyone is happy to cut down trees and do whatever job they can, Yet after a short time, they find hundreds of reasons to not pull their weight and only moan about how unhappy they are not being able to sleep.
This is in part what makes this game shine too. Trying to iron out the problems is also a huge part of the game play I guess.

i don't think it's intended. i can understand 1 or 2 doing this but all 17 dwarves stopping at once? seems more like a bug to me

had same they did nothing for year or 2 then started working again.... no reason for it :/

yep. same here, no reason no explanation. bit unfair to release the game in an unfinished state.

Just happened to me. 40 dwarves just up and stopped constructing anything. They are working fine on all tasks assigned, but any floors or walls I try and get built? Nothing. Same with smoothing. None will do it any more. Super weird and extremely frustrating given how cool my current colony is.

I fixed it. It's an overload of labors and tasks. make sure not everyone is set to do all labors, like planting and plant gathering and make sure you dont have any spam labor notifications (like need bucket, need cage, need plant item) you are basically spamming them with commands stopping them from executing what you want.

Basically make sure they have some free time and less obligations

This is where I miss Dwarf Therapist VERY much...

we'll get it soon ;)

This is a pretty common DF issue, where you'll have 100+ dwarves but suspiciously none of them are working. I feel like they could spend nothing but months working on this issue alone and it'd still be a serious problem
