How to keep equipment in barracks?
My warriors will put their equipment into the barracks as intended, but then the civilians will come and haul them back to bins in stockrooms. Its a never ending cycle and theyre wasting a lot of time doing it. Is there any way for me to restrict specific dwarves from a room or containers like armor stands and chests? Or am I doing this wrong somehow?

It's a known bug that has apparently existed in DF for a LONG time (it's labeled as a minor bug). https://dwarffortress.mantishub.io/view.php?id=1445

Not much you can do about it. For now, armor stands and weapon racks are just decorative with no functionality.

Click a stockpile and customize what is allowed to be stocked in it and what not. If you forbid weapons they should stop hauling it back to it

I swear I had commented on another issue similar to this yesterday but I guess its gone now.

Anyways I wanted to say what I found worked (im pretty sure I had this problem and didnt notice ingame). I just added a stockpile to my barracks (with crates) and selected only wearable armor (minus leather). removed them from my main pile, and now haulers dont move it around. also seems to help the militia gear up faster.

I just made a separate small one for weapons the same way too.

that seems to be an unfortunate oversight

Everything about soldiers seems scuffed at the moment. This never ending strange equipment storage battle between soldiers and civilians, soldiers randomly (also endlessly) putting equipment down where it needs to be then re-equiping it all over and over (even though they're set to only wear equipment when given orders, and I made sure they are off duty with no orders). And (not sure if this is intended or not) but a lot of the times during mission reports, even if there are around ten soldiers on my side and at least ten enemies on theirs, only one-two-three (three max) seem to participate during the whole battle on either side in the report. Nothing else is reported about the others and it seems a lot less is accomplished during missions as if it was just a troop of 3 lads instead of a whole squad of ten.

I attempted this in my world too, but the soldiers seem to just put their equipment down and re-equip it again over and over in the stockpiles that are in the barracks. Its all so bugged for some reason. And this has happened to me in two separate worlds now, not just a one time bugged world.

woah ok, now you come in here and tell me this??? I finally had my first big goblin raid, 40~ or so, and they wanted to parley. (which had worked the first time but this time noone seemed to want to go out) so I just sent my 2 squads of 10 (and like 10 war dogs) out to guard my drawbridge (over a 4-5 wide flowing river). one of the gobbos shot a bolt, and I sent them in. I had like 3 run forward and actually fight, I dont know if it was them being scared? or what it was the first battle with someone actually trying to fight back.

but the rest of them just like... stood there. I had the game pretty slowed down so I didnt notice right away. Then my second squads leader charges into 10 ALONE. and goes into a trance (he held out amazingly well for how screwed he was), gets tired and dies. meanwhile even re targeting the enemies or trying to use the move to command, does LITERALLY nothing. I figured it was just inexperience, but it sounds exactly like you described.

oh and the other REALLY weird thing was like 10 or more of the goblins were just like... sitting underwater. like a 3x3 packed at LEAST, for basically the whole duration of the fight. I think it was maybe half a month? I thought they had fled till they came pouring out when I got close. I checked their stats and as far as I can see they didnt have any negative effects. To my knowledge they should have died from that right?

A shame really, I can actually tell whats going on in combat (without logs) now but if its really that bugged... I dont think I had this issue when telling them to kill snatchers, (or the fing badger horde) they all just charged in like I remember seeing when watching others play OGDF.

hope some of these bugs can get squashed, Im really enjoying the game overall.

Yes, it's annoying... :)

Putting an appropriate Armor and Weapons Stockpile in the Barracks will at least put what's needed in there in a central location for the Squaddies to use.

For ammo (Bolts) use a separate stockpile with no Bins in it so Dorfs don't "Claim" bins while stocking up, preventing other Marksdorfs from accessing those bolts.
