How to remove stairs?
Anyone knows how to remove stairs in this game? Actually I can't select the stairs or remove them with the digging tool. Maybe its a bug?

Have you tried the digging tool (m) and then the stairway symbol on the very right which is crossed out?

You can only remove upward stairs unfortunately. If you mean a downward stairs and you don't want to see the hole, you have to just build a floor over it.

Yes, unfortunately it does not work. With another ladder the same thing happened to me but I covered it with a floor as Ghiorol said. But this one won't let me because it asks me to dismantle the construction first and there is no tool to remove it like the classic one.
It has to be a bug, right?

I'm having the same problem.. I deconstructed the upward stair only and now the downward stair is all that's left but I want to reput the stair their but it won't work. My symmetry is completely off now..

If the space is open, construct a stair, clicking first the space where you want the upward stair, then the space where your downward stair currently sits. If it's not open (it's probably open if stairs were removed though), dig stairs instead.

You can "remove" downward stairs too, by removing the stair that's underneath it. If you don't need a downward stair you don't need the bi-directional stair it's going down to either, so no problem eh? I do believe this will leave a big hole though, so you may as well cover it up with flooring.

I accidentally removed my main set of stairs to try to build one set of stairs deeper but because I cannot remove downward stairs and suddenly no one will build new stairs at all my people keep dying of dehydration away from their water supply but I cannot make them build new stairs to the surface

you can rebuild stairs using the build upstairs only button in this case I believe.

Yeah. I made a post about how they should let us build specific stair types again (I.E. up, down, up/down) because of mistakes like this.

However it seems that until that happens you'll just have to have a miner dwarf dig a new set of stairs somewhere else to access it.

Construct stairs (not dig; I think we're all on the same page here, but just to be sure, construct, not dig). Click your current down-stairs. Go up to the level you want to rebuild the stairs to. Click again. Should work a trick.

my issue is when I try to build a new set of stairs they just won't appear beyond the starting floor, whether I start at the bottom or top

Nah. Not if you already have a staircase and remove the bottom floor's up stairs. You can't build a new set of up stairs. You have to dig back up.

Although apparently this is only the case for 1x1 stairs? Not really intuitive.
