Can't use Gypsum

So my embark site has a lot of Gypsum. Gypsum which I can use for plaster powder, that has worked fine. However when I try to designate it for anything else like blocks it doesn't appear with a number next to it (despite there being dozens of rocks lying around) and even if I click on it to select it as the material for the block, the job immediately gets cancelled because there's no Gypsum. Is there any way to make Gypsum available to use for everything else? It's not forbidden or anything like that.

Durr, of course I find the option immediately after posting this.

For anyone else having the same issue: Press u -> Click on labor -> Click on stone use -> adjust your settings accordingly

I don't remember which menu it is in the new UI, but you have to allow that kind of use. By default, making blocks, furniture and crafts out of rocks that have another use is forbidden, just so your dwarves don't use all your gypsum making tables when it could have been used making plaster powder.

Generally speaking you don't want to use gypsum for other things because if you run out, it's sometimes rare to try to supply with trade only. However, if you got a very very heavy gypsum start, i could see using it for a bit.

Hah! I know the pain of seeing an ancient forum post and seeing something like 'nvm found the fix :)' so if I can prevent the same infuriating experience for at least one person then I will try.

OK so. I can make Gypsum mechanisms.. But I can't make Gypsum door. Without checking the box for using for other jobs.. I have too much gypsum.. I want doors.
