refuse pit
soo.. anyone know of a mod that adds a refuse pit? because honestly that this ♥♥♥♥ still doesnt exist in game is an atrocity. at least i haven't found any so far.
why does it have to be a refuse stockpile that we cannot place over a hole in the ground?

Well, you can designate a dumping ground near the hole, and then everything you mark for dumping will be thrown into that pit

Make it deep enough so the miasma cloud doesn't plume back up into your fort too. People used to make them pretty elaborate.

yeah, i know what a dumping pit is, but i want the dwarfs to yeet all the refuse in instead of the stuff marked as garbage. you know, like corpses of vermin and stuff that would get yeeted on a refuse pile. just i don't want a refuse pile anywhere near my entrance because i dont want to kill all kind of undead body parts again and again.

It's been a while. I haven't been able to fire up the Steam version yet either but that being said, I thought you could designate a dumping ground and a refuse stockpile and they would chuck it over the edge. Say into a bottomless chasm tile or magma.

You might be able to enclose a refuse area with walls and a door, and just lock it away somewhere it won't be a bother. It'll rot away, with very little miasma getting out, and if any parts reanimate they'll be blocked by the door.

actually, i am just thinking, can i feed the content of a refuse stockpile into a minecart? because then i could have a minecart on loop, dumping its content down a hole.....

You can set up a minecrart on the track stop such that it accepts refuse and immediately dumps it in the open tile.

guess that will be my sollution for my next fortress... this one is done anyways... tons of creepy crawley corpses' miasma has led to a tantrum spiral.... ;)

Easy for disposing of annoying items. Like Foreign corpses, bones, hair, tendon or rotted meat.

Also a cool torture area for any living humanoid thrown into it.

You can also fill the bottom with magma, or connect it with a running river to get rid of a lot of items.

COngratulations, you have just described a quantum stockpile. Designate dump zone at edge of cliff, dwarves throw trash in it, it falls to the bottom, stacks infinitely on a single tile.

Is it an idea to just create a dwarven atom smasher to clean up the refuse?

Just creating a decently large stockpile for all the refuse next to a drawbridge that smashes down on it should cover most use cases. Unless you're really generating a ton of refuse storing it in an enclosed area and periodically pulling a lever should keep the miasma problems contained.

I think the atom smasher is what you are looking for...

You can't create a stockpile under a drawbridge, as drawbridge is a building that occupies the whole space.
You have to create a dumping zone there (which requires manual Dump orders), or a minecart on track stop that automatically accepts a certain type of items and dumps them there.
