How to Bedrooms

Hello. So, I am trying to assign bedrooms to specific dwarves, or, especially, families so they can sleep in the same room.

How do i do that? Do I assign the whole room or just the bed? Also, how do I assign couples or children since the area only allows me to assign a single dwarf? Thanks!

It should happen automatically, at least it did in older versions. Married dwarves share the same bed, you only need to assign one of them to the bedroom. Babies stay with their mother, when they grow up they will need an own bedroom eventually (at least as far as I remember).

Don't assign dwarves. Ever. Unless you're bored.

Build room (door, bed), and select the room pain tool, select "Multi paint", drag over aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall them rooms then hit done. Congrats you now have a squajillion bedrooms. Just leave 'em. The dwarves auto-claim for their family the first time they sleep there, and all share a bed.

The only time you would need to assign a bedroom is if you're making a royal suite of rooms for one of your nobles. Otherwise, just create it as a bedroom and let the dwarves sort it out themselves, families will group together on their own.

It makes sense, though. For nobles who want better rooms, or for skilled workers where you don't want them to waste time to run through your whole fortress from some random bedroom to their workshop.

But you're kinda right, usually you don't need to worry about assignments. And you can micro-manage your important citizens later on.
