Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Do I really need a tomb room for each dwarf?
I remember just creating huge spiraling rooms with coffin alcoves. Is this not possible anymore? Do I need to give each coffin its own room and door now?

Unless it changed with the new version, you can place them all into the same room. I don't think you had to set it as a room in the previous version, just allow citizen/pet burials on each coffin as needed. The tomb designation was for noble room demands IIRC. I don't know if this is true in the Steam version though.

I did that, and it says the coffin cannot be used without a tomb zone, which needs a door.

Make slabs and dump them away. Slabs engraved in memory of your dwarves wil have the cause of death and a bit of information on the dwarf.

You creat slabs in the manson and after they got created you can engrave them in the craftsdwarve workshop.

Well, I dunno then. I'll check it out tomorrow when I buy the Steam version.

I made a giant tomb with a slab in it though I didn't get around to burying anyone else on that fort. Try deleting the zone and recreating it.

I just made a room with a door, put a bunch of coffins into it, then designated it as a tomb zone. Nobody's actually died yet, so it hasn't been tested, but it seemed happy with the general idea. (I do have a dorf in a melancholy mood though, so it probably won't be unused for much longer.)

Yeah all but one of my dwarves died to a couple of zombies at the start of the first winter, the last survivor filled what was going to be the manager's office with coffins, buried only the planter and then went back to idling so no, multiple dwarves can't be assigned to one tomb. This is quite frustrating; everyone dying was a setback but this is what stopped me continuing today :/
Setting up a hundred tombs with doors is going to be a bit frustrating. Seems the easiest way now is just make a load of slabs and get ready to engrave them all.

You wouldn't happen to be in a Evil zone or anything like that would you?
Might want to keep an eye on those dead dorfs if the zombies didn't just wander in from another area.

Tomb zone doesn't need a door, you should be fine placing it in the open.

I ran into an issue with this as well-

I had a big room with a bunch of coffins in it designated as a tomb. Someone died and they put him in one of the coffins. Then more people died but no one brought them to the other coffins.

It turns out that the entire room was considered that first dead guy's tomb and every coffin was marked as his.

So yeah, you need to make individual zones for every coffin.

You're probably going to have the same issue I had. It will dedicate that entire room to whoever is buried in that first coffin, even if you make non-connected zones. The non-connected zones will still go to whoever is buried in the first coffin.

You need a door for each coffin and a zone for each one as well

I ran into that problem, sidestepped it by making every coffin a 1x1 tomb in my burial chamber. Seems to work fine, no ghosts or anything

Make the tomb just one square on the casket. Works for me in my game.

No, you're safe by just putting burial coffins together, no need to declare tomb zone as that is for other purposes.

Just make a room, bunch of coffins, no zoning.
