In the video options, make sure "scale interface to fit grid width" is set to Yes, and change the "Desired Grid Width for Scaling" to a low value, the lowest you can, for both width and height.
I'm running at 1280x1024 with those settings and it's working out well. I may try a higher resolution now that I know what to do actually.
I don't have a black border, but I did have one at 1280x1024, because it's a square-resolution. Are you sure you're on a 16:9 resolution?
The game doesn't tell you this, but to see the UI scale changes and graphics changes you have to relaunch the game.
I can happily report that I now have the game looking great with a readable font and at 16:9 fullscreen resolution (1920x1080)
I hope so, DF gives off big bedroom coder vibes so I'm praying the real mods start coming out ASAP.
As soon as i'm able, I'm installing the Expressway font.
It works, I assure you. Make sure you follow the instructions (set the scaling to yes, and the grid size to the lowest possible values) and also restart the game. It's important that you pick the right resolution as well, so you may want to try some different resolutions. I recommend 1920x1080 (i.e. 1080p).
Edit - btw I also have aging eyesight and it worked well enough for me to consider the game fully playable, on par with other games with readaable fonts.
Another possibility is UI scaling in windows, but I don't know how much I would recommed that. That's more of a last resort for me.
So ive been hard at work, and ive gotten the 16x16 font working the default is 8x12
Simply using the 16x16 font will really screw the game up...so I had to go through and redo all the interface graphics and change all the related files to recognize the new grid size of 16x16 and new file dimensions all increased resolution for interface elements.
I still have a few glitches with how some of it fits together but font is much cleaner.
Sounds good man!
I think I did that right.
squashed the bugs. Hope you guys all enjoy.
-----edit-----
nexus does have DF in their game list yet so it says waiting to get approved.
you can join the DF discord https://discord.gg/8xVVGfS5 and I posted font mod in the modding chat.
dont think steam workshop will work because I modify files instead of adding new files.
