Dwarf Fortress

Sound Effects and Game Speed
Brand new to the game but seems like it's lacking sound effects such as when chopping wood or mining. Having those sound effects would really add to the immersion factor in my view - maybe that was irrelevant until the graphics update?

The other thing is the game seems to run really fast and I don't see a speed control other than pause. Do players use the pause a lot or do you just get used to the speed?

Also wondering about the speed, i'm not sure if it's a 24hr day either or just one full day passing, hard to tell.

There isn't any speed control other than start/stop. Things are pretty quick, and time is a bit abstracted in Fort mode. easier to keep track of time by moon phase and time of year.

There are speed controls: Alt+= to speed up. Alt+- to slow down.

Days pass like seconds. Yes, it doesn't make sense that dwarves sleep about 6 times a year, but it's because things are supposed to be on a macro scale.

You can actually adjust the game speed! Go to settings then under the "game" tab scroll down until you see "game frames-per-second cap". It's set to 100 by default.

Changing this affects the speed of the game. I set mine to 30 and find it much easier to keep some track of who's doing what. I still pause a lot. :)

Wait is this the shortcut to adjust Game FPS Cap on the fly?

I too am wondering about adding sounds to mining and chopping trees. I found a mod that adds alert sounds but wondering if I need to look into making my own mod for something like this.

I found SoundSense but believe it's for the OG DF but some sort of sound manager for this would be amazing. I enjoy hearing my peons toiling.

Biggest drawback for me is no sounds when there working just makes game feel hollow

As others said, it runs as fast as possible (with a cap of course)...and later on there will be too a lot to compute, so it will run slower. The combo ALT+-/ALT+= was unknown to me. Need to try it... especially in early gameplay.

If I remember correctly you can pause and progress one tick with "." When in a siege/fight/serious situation you sometimes don't want to start stop with space with unknown time elapsed, but instead move Tick by tick.

Hopefully they add sounds for chopping or mining would add to the immersion.
