How to I see legends mode?
This may sound silly, but I can't find it anywhere. Could it be that it's disabled until I retire a fortress? I always found that game mode really cool and I liked reading through the stories. That said, I haven't played DF in a long time (and I was always REALLY bad at it...)

first make a world. once accepted it will take you to main menu.

after start with the existing world. next menu will be how you want to play,
fortress mode,
adventure (not yet active)
legends

click legends to go to history of the world.
you will be able to click any coloured text in the descriptions,
this will go that that person, event, places. it will make a new tab for you.
so when you want to go back, look at top, click the tab that has the place person event you were just looking at

If the new version hasn't changed it, you will need to retire your current fortress in a world to look at that world's legends. Unless you are under siege or something, retire is mostly reversible, but you will end up leaving the dwarves entirely on their own for a couple weeks, so they may drink all the booze & leave stuff scattered around. I think of the results as needing to clean up after a neighbourhood-sized party that lasted two weeks ...

You can start a game in the existing world and after that menu, you will see the Legends. After that you can exit without actually starting a new game.

So my way of doing is to copy the world files after creation and then wenver i need to look up something in the Legends I look at the legends of the copy.
Of course the legends is not completely up to date after some time playing but you can copy the world again...

How to:
in you steam library you richt click on DF>Manage>Local files
This will open your game files.
Then you go to saves and copy the folder of he world you are interested in you rename the folder so you know it is your legends worlds
e.g. my world is the universes of enchantment so my legends world is "the Lore or Enchantment"
then you restart dwarf fortress
now when you click "start a new game in an exsisting timeline" the lore world should be available and you can look at the legends.
(If you already have a running fortress you can open it in the lore world and retire it there and get access to the Legends without retiring the fortress in your main world)
