how do you make a mug or glass so they can drink from them

I know you can make a cup at the carpenter's shop, still experimenting with other options.

EDIT: It's at the Craftdwarf's Workshop under cups, not the carpenter. The same bench can make mugs out of stone.

Stonemason's workbench should be able to make stone mugs. I can't remember about the glass ones, but I've not made any glass mugs (because dwarves, ergo stone) in ages because although glass is almost infinitely supplied, it's a lot of extra steps to make.

Rock mugs and wooden cups are made at a Craftdwarf's Workshop.

Pretty sure you can make cups and mugs (same thing, different material) at a craftsdwarf's workshop.

The craftsdwarf workshop lets you make rock mugs, which I usually find to be the easy solution to that problem early on. In order to get your dwarfs to be happy about using your cups, it helps to build a sufficiently sized dining hall and then designate it as an inn/tavern.

Ohh just search for cup instead of mug

You have to open the "rock" section first, then you'll find it.

if you make a tavern they will store mugs inside a chest make sure you add a chest

If you want to be quite fancy try making metal goblets at a forge and then encrust them with cut gems at a jeweller's. Your dorfses will be so happy!
