Not in the original ASCII mode, no. In versions older than 0.50 the game had proper terminal support (at least on Linux and Mac), using the PRINT_MODE:TEXT setting. It was even possible to play the game over SSH with this option. However, since 0.50 this setting no longer exists.
What you can get though is a rendering that mostly looks like the text-based display of those earlier versions. This mode can be enabled in the Video Settings. However, it's still rendered as graphics, does not work on the terminal, and most importantly, is optimized for mouse input.
