Is the money going to the og DF team?
I'm happy to pay 30 euro assuming at least 2/3 that goes to the df team and the publisher isn't just taking 90 percent of the money

If it doesn't go to the team I'd rather wait for a sale and send them 30 on patreon

Steam takes a 30% cut, According to their site Kitfox takes an 80% cut of what's left until sales pays off their administration costs. I don't know how much that is.

Regardless, if you want to directly support Toady, you should donate to him. The information is on the Bay12 website.

Generally speaking, Tarn and Zach will receive 80% of the money after Steam's cut. Kitfox effectively receives 16% (20% after Steam). For the first payment we'll also take a bit to pay back the amount we spent on artists, musicians, etc, but it will be easily covered.

I'm having those rare faint twinges of regret for my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that only transcendent minds are comfortable admitting to, because there are honestly enough people on steam deranged enough to genuinely feel angry about something like this

The game costs $30, Steam takes 30% ($9) and Kitfox takes 20% after Steam ($4.20).

The dev team gets $16.80 per sale.

they worked on this for 16 years and you take 20% of the money.

dev skill: make a good game
publisher skill: manipulation

The publishers helped with marketing and project management.

Isn't that up to Tarn and Zach? They seem happy.

not worth 20%
It was apparently worth it to Tarn.

Y'all, video game publishers do a lot more than just take a cut - they help hire and organize artists, press releases, interviews... and all of this stuff is stuff that Tarn and Zach likely didn't want to do themselves.

There are a lot of bigger publishers that do less, but Kit Fox has a great record of working with indies.

You should fight all publishers, all of them, with incredibly manly strength of battles

Personally I have not seen any marketing either other than a couple of let's plays before release. It was up to the developers, but I would have just put it on steam myself :P. I have dealt with Steam on the developer side and it's not that hard.

Actually true. Devs should have put a couple of points into barter though. If the artists and soundpeople are planning to support this game in the same way that the brothers have done then it's probably fair.

not worth 20%

It's 20% of money that Tarn never would have seen without them. It's more than worth it.
