Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress is still available for free on Bay12, and has supporting community packs to add graphics/etc
Can we stop spamming the forums with posts about the $30 price, that it should be $10, etc.

The devs have built and shared this game for over a decade at only their own expense. There are AAA titles double the cost and with a third of the content of Dwarf Fortress, $30 is really not that much for a title like this at release.

I understand everyone being excited to support devs, but if the $30 is to much for you, put your money where your mouth is, donate that $10 you think DF is worth direct to Bay12 and play the latest free versions.

As I understand it, Zach and Tarn are still updating the last free forks as well in the coming weeks with some new UI adjustments and stuff.

But even as a try-before-you-buy kind of demo, you are free and fully capable of DLing the free versions, playing around with community packs to add graphics/etc and get a good taste for this title before you decide if you want to purchase the steam version.

If it sounds like too much work to install the different community made packs to give DF some graphics for the free version, well, that's literally why all those things were combined together into the steam release.

There is ample evidence online through video and other media at the type of game and graphics DF has, it's sort of a waste of energy to talk about how much jank the title has / etc when it's like, there's been clear and open dev builds of the game for 15 years, there is literally no good reason to not know what you're gettin' into when paying for a title like this.
