Dwarf Fortress

Another game that would be SICK to get the "DF on Steam" Treatment: CDDA.
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is such a neato game and I'd be so super-thrilled and would pay All of the Money if they put a more user-friendly version on steam. You can just do so much in that game. I'll freely admit that I bounced off DF a few times simply because I had trouble figuring out how to play it (although it sounds close to my Dream Game)- but anyone familiar with CDDA- lets somehow convince the people/person who makes it and tell them we will give them All Of The Money if they put it on steam. And I do mean ALL of the money. Rollerskating through an abandoned school looking for chemical supplies while using a slingshot to keep bionic-enhanced supermonsters from killing me is always a good time. Building solar-powered vans to travel to the next town to try to find a gun store for more ammo is just good old-fashioned family fun.

CDDA Dev People. Come to Steam. Get All of the Money. And I'll give you some of those stupid little award sticker things too.

CDDA is even more accessible than DF imo

Yeah, just about anything is easier to learn than DF, but CDDA has so much potential and getting it on steam would get more people modding. I personally feel CDDA with increased mod access could be my ultimate game.

yea, kinda wishing CDDA on steam too

+1 interest for CDDA

Wouldn't that be something to tell that game's devs about? How does posting it on the DF forum help?

On the subject of DF, I think some people are going to be surprised at what happens when it comes out. There are still *many* aspects of the game that will result in players bouncing off of it. It's a good step, but it's not an automatic commercial success and there are plenty of features & bugs people will complain about.

I have absolutely no idea how to inform the CDDA people about this- Just wanted to throw the idea out there. If someone has a line to the CDDA people feel free to tell them to put it on Steam. I personally have zero idea how to inform them nor have I looked into how to do so. Just thought that a game with similar depth to DF might want to put their game on steam.

Kinda snarky though. Not involved with CDDA's forums whereever they are- just thought that they could follow the same path as DF. I think a lot of people would love that game if it were more available.

There was an attempt releasing CDDA on steam, in fact someone actually made a steam release page, but the devs called it off tho.

FWIW it took less than a minute to find where they take suggestions/ideas/bug reports/etc. They use GitHub for that. https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/issues/

Cool. That could be useful. It's been a while since I played it but I like my sandbox games with optional "direction". So you can screw around a build a solar-powered death-van but then go back to some side-plots and whatnot. A mod that adds some sort of optional storyline would be great for CDDA- and they very well could have some mods like that now. Kinda like how RImworld has the Royalty thing..... haven't used the religion one yet but hoping it has something along those lines of giving some direction for when you are tired of just looting/screwing around.

You can check out Nearly Dead. A game made by modders of CDDA which is closest to anything CDDA like you will get on Steam aside from Caves of QUDS, Project Zomboid & Barotrauma. But its one EA and doesn't have that much content.

This always bugs me why don't any AAA companies make games like DF & CDDA on UE5/similar engines?

I bought Ideology for Rimworld recently. It's best if used to enhance roleplay. It has a few quests related to relics but it really enhances what you can do with the game. Lots of different types of cults and belief systems.

I... Idk.... Cdda is... well I guess its easier to say what it isn't.

And that doesn't really offer much help there either.

It's a niche market and they're pushing for getting the most value out of the work put into any one project. They're not going to get the same returns on a hundred million monies worth of work on a "Dwarf Fortress Clone" as they would out of a "Call of Duty Clone."

Plus, most rogue-like/lite fans don't like AAA developers. :) IF such a developer ever tried to create a "value-added" experience by adding DLC and in-game purchases, they'd get brutally attacked for infringing upon the "Indie Ideal Genre" of Roguish games.

Not that I wouldn't welcome a really well-done, professional quality, good grapihcs/mechanics roguish game by a AAA house... It's just not really likely to happen. At best, one will get a Diablo'ish game with a Hardcore Mode and "unlocks."

PS: There's nothing stopping you from going out and d'loading UE and giving it a go! :) Not saying you should have to do that, but it's an option you might enjoy trying.
