On the subject of DF, I think some people are going to be surprised at what happens when it comes out. There are still *many* aspects of the game that will result in players bouncing off of it. It's a good step, but it's not an automatic commercial success and there are plenty of features & bugs people will complain about.
Kinda snarky though. Not involved with CDDA's forums whereever they are- just thought that they could follow the same path as DF. I think a lot of people would love that game if it were more available.
FWIW it took less than a minute to find where they take suggestions/ideas/bug reports/etc. They use GitHub for that. https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/issues/
This always bugs me why don't any AAA companies make games like DF & CDDA on UE5/similar engines?
I bought Ideology for Rimworld recently. It's best if used to enhance roleplay. It has a few quests related to relics but it really enhances what you can do with the game. Lots of different types of cults and belief systems.
And that doesn't really offer much help there either.
It's a niche market and they're pushing for getting the most value out of the work put into any one project. They're not going to get the same returns on a hundred million monies worth of work on a "Dwarf Fortress Clone" as they would out of a "Call of Duty Clone."
Plus, most rogue-like/lite fans don't like AAA developers. :) IF such a developer ever tried to create a "value-added" experience by adding DLC and in-game purchases, they'd get brutally attacked for infringing upon the "Indie Ideal Genre" of Roguish games.
Not that I wouldn't welcome a really well-done, professional quality, good grapihcs/mechanics roguish game by a AAA house... It's just not really likely to happen. At best, one will get a Diablo'ish game with a Hardcore Mode and "unlocks."
PS: There's nothing stopping you from going out and d'loading UE and giving it a go! :) Not saying you should have to do that, but it's an option you might enjoy trying.
