Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

sooo... anyone else holding off playin DF until steam launch?
i want to play DF again for more than a year now, but everytime i tried, it either crashed on me constantly, or the hassle with managing mods and texture packs and whatnot turned me off again. so i made the decision to wait and play some of the medicore ripoffs that are available until it finally drops on steam.
it is painful.

I'm in the same boat, i have held off playing DF until the Steam release, my anticipation is immeasurable!

Soon as it releases, i'm booking some days off work :D

I've been wanting to play this for awhile but keep deciding to hold off until the Steam release. Here's to hoping it's soon!

Holding off here too. Tried the game out several years ago but I could not figure out my way around it's interface, plus I was veeery new to the colony management concept/genre.

It wasn't Until Rimworld came out that things started clicking for me, but still I never gave DF another try it just seemed very daunting.

When I saw the announcement I was adamant about avoiding playing the free version till the steam release, I want it to be as fresh an experience as possible.

Same here.
I'm really hoping that it's somewhat more accessible than the original version...
I mean, I'm not a complete idiot, I enjoy Rimworld just as much as the next guy, but I just can't break through the barrier-of-entry that vanilla Dwarf Fortress puts in front of new players.

I have the original installed and always mean to play it, but it is a bit complicated to me. A lot of thing I do not understand or perhaps not meant to understand and I always move onto other things. I've even tried graphical upgrades, but they do not seem to work or function as intended. If the price is reasonable or when it goes on sale I will pick this up if the modding is as easy as a download from Steam.

I got the hang of Dwarf Fortress and it was worth every second of learning it. Still, I'm pumped to see it all nice a pretty while being easily accessible through Steam.
I've been holding off ever since this came to steam, been a real tease now for over a year, or more I think still waiting since it's the biggest change to the game and such a huge step, it can take five more years I will gladly wait.

I've played the game before, but without the quality of life changes coming in the steam release I don't have the drive to keep playing.

I've been doing a really heavily modded Adventure Mode play through for a bit now since I heard it won't be coming on launch for the Steam version. Though for Fortress Mode I'm saving that for the Steam release.

Imagine a fully 3D version where you can roam the fortress at will.

I thought the Steam version was getting everything. Did you hear this somewhere official?

It will eventually get adventure mode, but not at launch. Classic won't have adventure mode next update either. Tarn wanted to polish adventure mode and work on the UI.
Yea... the OG game looks cool. Though it is such a head ache to get things working right without any good guidance or experience. So I'll wait till this is out and see if it's better or not.
