Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Animated Movement planned or possible to mod in later?
While really excited for the release, I was wondering whether it will be possible to somehow get smoother movement.
Currently, Sprites "teleport"from one Grid cell to another and I guess this comes naturally from the ASCII nature/origin of dwarf fortress. I find this a little irritating and desorienting at times, especially with multiple entities close to each other.
just a simple hopping instead of teleporting goes a long way for comfort and visibility in my opinion. Similar to movement in KeeperRL for example.
So my question is:
Is this planned as a (maybe) future thing or might it be possible, to mod this functionality in ourselfs?

The game is cellular, either the entity is in location X or it's in location X+-1.

Yeah it can be a bit hard to follow a dwarf when they run through the dining room full with other dwarves, but that's why you have Follow-mode.

Perhaps movement could be modded in based on time...... perhaps a mod workshop will be made available so users can do this.

Rimworld has the same cellular core, but has an animation for transitions between cells (although in fact the entities is in location X or in location X+/-1, with no intermediate values)

Yeah, I also said as much early in the graphical version development. They didn't do it because it wouldn't accurately display what's going on and also because predicting where a dwarf is going for the animation to start is hard/expensive if they're in a fight and have to dodge, apparently. I think it would still be worth it to implement even if it was sometimes wrong or had teleports in cases like that, but of course I'm just a guy with an opinion.

I think the question is if it can be faked. For example D2R runs old Diablo 2 underneath, but the overlay fakes high frame 3D animation, instead of sprite one original has.

I have to agree, there's little sense in replicating the already existing sprite injection, might as well go a step further, increase the price and add animations.
