What is the appeal of DF to you?
As an outsider who'd like to try it but has a really hard time following through on learning a new game, as someone who's been curious about DF for many years; id like to know what got you into the game and why do you enjoy it?

Finally what would you say to someone like me?

Edit: I also wanted to add that although I dont consider graphics to be a huge necessity. I do find it to be REALLY tough to get over the roguelike graphics of games like DF.

I like the potential for narrative generation. I see it as an idea factory for fiction writers. :) Also, it is a challenge -- I get my @$$ kicked a lot. I don't like wimpy. There's no reward in that.

Why do you like DF more? Also what tiles do you use? I can't stand the ascii stuff.
