Every so often I run into weird errors and the problem is the game is not on C drive and is on a network drive. But, the vast majority of games having them stored on a network drive is OK.
However, its good to hear that your problem got resolved.
But its very likely Anti-Cheat. I am familiar with this with some multiplayer games like fortnite. This particular error can have multiple solutions. Verifying integrity helps too if the executable was damaged somehow. Unknown file version error can pop up from this too.
