It's because they have updated the engine and textures, nothing to do with Epic Games, Contracts 2 has updated as well so with both of them it's not far off 80GB of downloading and it's corrupted everyone's saved games.

This is the patch news, around 20GB of the download is textures.

Sniper Elite 5 is the best graphically Sniper Elite 4 isn't too bad, or Sniper Elite 3.

I've tried overwriting the Saved Games with my backup from a couple of days ago and just defaults back to New Game.

Annoying as I had 100% finished the levels on all three settings, had every weapon, all the perks and over 8 million in cash and now it's all gone. I've uninstalled it and been playing Sniper Elite 5 tonight, least I got some free DLC with that and unlike this has all my saved games.

I haven't tried SGWC 2 yet but apparently the saved games are fine on that, better be because I maxed everything out on that as well and don't want to start from scratch.

Engine update? Without even acknowledging us before hand?

Just looks like small tweaks to the Cry Engine 3 files, not a complete re-write or major update.

The save files likely use a different method of saving now, as in different code. Whatever they have done has completely ruined it, it's been installed as a fresh install not an update.
Why they couldn't have done it the same as Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, that updated and saved everything.

Considering it looks like this is a remaster of the original with updated graphics, it's ironic that it's almost 3 times the original size and the first bit I played didn't looked that different to the original, lighting looks a bit better.

I agree with you
1- Entirely replacing the good old 19 GB we had before with this 38 GB mess.
2- Shutting down mp servers since mid 2022 without even announcing it.
3- Since the release of Contracts 2, no patch notes or any sort of announcements has been made.
4- Deleting threads that criticize the devs.
5- Changing the game engine without providing a way to migrate the save files.

The devs completely lost it and this is it for me personally with SWG, I'm no longer supporting these devs no matter what.
