Move forwards into an over watch position, stop and scout the area. Figure out where you need to go next, how you are going to get there and who you need to kill to get there. If you are getting killed that easily then you are probably trying to run and gun. If you are playing this as a sniping experience then you should only be firing one bullet per contract. This game is won and lost based on how well you can sit still and observe your surroundings in order to spot targets, hazards and options, then how well you can figure out where you need to be to make the shot.
The save system is quite liberal, you really don't have to walk that far to trigger an auto save so at worst "back you go to the start" is more like "back you go 100 meters to 200 meters", but now you know where you got shot from so you can go back and spot that sniper before they spot you.
