Character customization, or preset main character?
I'm just curious if there will be any degree of character customization, or if the game features a preset main character. If there is any, does anyone know how much? Like can you just change a nickname that no one will ever mention, or can you alter the appearance and by how much?

why? It's first person.

Because I care, even if it's something I'd only see in the inventory screen. I play "real life" in first person, and how I look matters there, too.

So what? There's a reason first person FPS/RPGs like VTMB 2, The Outer Worlds, Cyberpunk 2077, and so on all have character customization. So do games like Far Cry 5 and Far Cry New Dawn. (And those games only partially do it for co-op.) The idea that it "doesn't matter" is just plain weird. The person you are in real life matters. The clothes you wear matter. Real life isn't third person.

Anyway, OP, unfortunately AFAIK there is no character customization. There's a preset character, and I don't think you ever see his face since it's hidden behind a mask. This feels like a compromise to move away from the "grizzled American sniper dude" thing the previous games were caught up on.

My personal suspicion is that the game was originally meant to have a female protagonist but this changed for some reason. A number of things point to this, such as the first piece of artwork that was released, and the fact the survey they sent out back in 2018 asked about female protags.

Very good analysis.

Indeed, we had this artwork with a woman sniper, but there was apparently no follow-up. It would be interesting for the developers to explain why.

Even if the character has a mask, I hope I can personalize it a little: make him adopt a camouflage suit (it could be different depending on the climate) for example.

Character creation is always a plus in my book
I agree wholeheartedly with the above statements. As a disabled trans combat vet, if I can't "be* in the game as a female and it's a military shooter, I basically don't play it. :/ FML, wanted to buy this while it was $19! :rcry:

Excatly character customization does not matter when you play in First Person.

Unless you care about the character you're playing as and how they appear in cutscenes... And what sounds they make when jumping or taking damage. Or god forbid, roleplaying.

The only time you see the character is during each chapter's introduction video, and that is a pre-rendered scene so it's very unlikely they would allow customization of any kind. If they did, it would not show up in that video at all.

It's funny how some of you want to be in the game. This is not you in the game, it's a fictional character, an anonymous mass murderer that kills hundreds of men without flinching for some shadow organization with unclear motives... I don't see how this character should have the same haircut and clothes you wear in the real world for you to appreciate that.

I believe that character customization would only be worth it in Multiplayer, not the game itself. No need for it and the AI don't care what you look like. You are only a sprite to them, colored in red. As the saying goes, "If it's red, it's dead," as far as, they're concerned.

Coincidentally the MP is just out and you get to pick one of the models already in the game as your avatar. Haven't tried it yet though, I want to finish the contracts first.
