You can complete the game without sending Elena to the Everdoor if you so wish, but, no they are not fake quests. That said they are much easier to do once you have all your abilities. And with the dragon, if you fail, you can have her extend the time for you. You will need dash to complete it on time. And even if you fail her mission, you get gold, so there's no downside to doing it several times since it's a resource you need anyway.
I was able to do the lightning one without any new abilities, but the asteroid one - on boy did that need the light burst. I also found it handy to construct and "X" zip line going from the top of the boat to the bottom on both sides. This allows you to quickly move to follow the asteroids without having to use dash, so you can use your light burst only instead (as they both have cool downs).
I am a TERRIBLE gamer and I could complete these.
I too was annoyed with the more platformer nature of her missions, but she wasn't the worst for me, Daria was! ACK!!!!!!! Was better my second time, but, yeah, not something I found enjoyable, so I get it.
I never the dragons once I have access to the turtles - they are so handy!
But Daria's platforming just pissed me off. In the original game, platforming was really terrible, but in dlc for Daria, he was even worse!
I found that there is a secret, that if you look at the platforms, there are very easy ways to make the jumps
Just quickly do the three things she asks and then she was off the boat and I had just blinked once.
She needed no hug, no special favors. End of story.
and she tells you her favorite dish upfront, no hazzle, no guessing. I remember keeping Alice as hostage until I found out her favorite dish because I refused to use a guide
