Kids will take longer to finish the game cus they got tiny brains and don't know what they're doing half the time. This is the audience that the game is directed at, though.
For an adult who has never played before, I'd expect a solid 4-6 hours to any%, maybe around 8 hours to 100% due to some pretty difficult areas (example: kelp forest slide challenge).
For an adult who has played the game before, It all depends on how much they remember from the game. It's the exact same game built from the ground up, so placements of items and rewards are completely unchanged.
There is no adjustable difficulty, mostly because there is no need for it. All Robots do the same amount of damage because instead of having a health bar, you just have a predetermined number of hits. This is the same for boss fights. Spongebob has 3-6 health points, depending on how many golden underwears you have collected, regular robots can take anywhere from one hit to three hits to kill, depending on the robot type and HOW you attack them, mini bosses have 3 hit points, and bosses have 9. Most of the time in games, difficulty adjusts how much damage the player takes and how much damage the enemy takes, how precise enemies are with their attacks/dodging your attacks, etc. Again, all entities have preset determined amount of health, so difficulty cant adjust anything there. Bosses follow a strict pattern of attacks based on the phase they're in (talking about regular bosses), and minibosses use the same streak of attacks during the entire fight. Most regular robots just chase you down or shoot ♥♥♥♥ at you or something.
Basically what I'm trying to say is, there is no need for a difficulty changer. The game wasn't built to have different set difficulties. You would usually find this option in RPGs, like Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy or something, games that are mostly built around combat. Because BfBB is a 3D Platformer, difficulty settings aren't really necessary.
I would rather have a good game that is on the shorter side.
Have you guys played Pac Man World 2?
Believe it or not but this game is roughly as long, if not a little longer than world 2. the biggest difference being that BFBB is a psuedo open world with no set level order, as oppose to PMW2's set order. In terms of difficulty id say PMW2 is the harder of the bunch but that may be nostalgia blinding me because I've played through BFBB more. both are equally good games and if you think about it try it out.
That obviously depends on whether you're just blazing through or slowing down to enjoy the scenery once in a while.
