Shotgun Trial and Shredder Trial Overworld Connection

I've noticed that the shotgun time trial and the shredder time trial, despite being right next to each other, are not connected on the overworld map. When you complete both trials, you'd expect them to connect but they simply don't. I thought that they just wanted you to wait until later to complete the shredder and rocket trials, but I noticed some things that suggest otherwise:
-The shredder trial has a non secret plasma rifle that you unlock by completing the trial fast enough. At the time you do the trial, you already have the plasma rifle making it pointless to collect. However, if you were to go to shredder trial immediately after the shotgun trial, you'd have an early plasma rifle giving the player the incentive to collect said weapon.
-Hazard is locked off behind 9 runes, but by the time you get there you already have all 9 runes, making this lock pointless. Hazard is connected to rocket trial via a portal, so if you were to complete rocket trial early you could then go to Hazard early, giving a reason to lock it off behind runes.
-Looking up older footage of the overworld map reveals a faded path between shotgun and shredder trail that never unlocks, although this path is missing on all of my saves.
I'm curious, am I missing something or are these areas just not meant to be connected yet.

I also find it odd about the shotgun trial if you have weapons from previous levels you can finish it faster without the shotgun. seems like temporary weapon and ammo lockout system needs too be implemented for these levels, So your limited too just the shogun/ammo on the shotgun trial level, and other other levels respectively.
