Contractors is easily the better option from my perspective. I very much dislike the weird FOV limit thing that happens when you get shot at in Onward, I dislike how difficult it can be to identify teammates let alone tell where they are. I also find the maps in Onward to be pretty mediocre, Contractors definitely has fewer but I think every one of them is better than any of the Onward maps.
Onward does have a better (existing) coop mode so if you want to play with friends against AI that's your only option at the moment. I find the AI in Onward though is really poor, not to say that the bots in contractors are any better. Both just kinda run at you mindlessly. It's just that Onward has a terrorist hunt mode where you have to eliminate all enemies and it also has an evac mode where you have to survive for a certain about of time then get to an extraction point. I've certainly had fun with it but that's the only thing Onward has on Contractors at the moment.
I see a lot of potential in Onward, I feel like if they tried to do more single player stuff they've got the framework to do something akin to the old rainbow six games which would just be awesome. Unfortunately I don't really expect that to happen.
All that said you can get both and just play less than two hours of each and refund the one you like least.
I fumble a bit since I play both games. Is there a way to change which buttons does what - so that I can set Contractors up like Onward?
Btw the Gunstock setup rocks! That is simply brilliant.
I wouldn't recommend getting Contractors right now simply because the playerbase is absolutely tiny. Onward isn't exactly doing great either, but it still has doubled the playerbase than what Contractors has. I would hold on on both right now.
Contractors entirely depends on its playerbase, and unfortunately that is where it fails. Onward has some singleplayer stuff, like bots and missions, and the community is similar to Squad's community (pretty much breaths the game, but still helpful and welcoming to newbies)
You do realize recommending to people to avoid the game because of a small player population contributes to that small player count....
Not a very helpful recommendation for an early access title.
The devs need to do a free weekend or a 50-70% off sale and get this game in people's game library.
Yeah, their gun stock calibration is the best out there. Each gun can be individually calibrated as well.
You can customize your controller setup in the stream vr settings. Might want to toy around with that and see if you can get things where you want them.
It's already great, and is getting substantial updates regularly.
Don't think twice, just buy it and refund it if you won't like it (you will like it).
This is my go to VR FPS now.
Onward is like slow Insurgency/Rainbow Six Siege
Pavlov is like Counter Strike
Contractors is like COD/Fast Insurgency
