Onward or Contractors?
What do you folks recommend? I've heard this game is like Onward but without all the waiting.. Suggestions?

This isn't really like onward in my opinion but I do feel it exists in the area between it and Pavlov. Onward is nice but I find it's a lot of waiting and too simulation focused. Pavlov is great has lots of modes and is very fast with a very CSGO style focus. Contractors sits in the middle and has more realistic weapons, easier to control recoil and more ammo management. It certainly feels more simulation like than Pavlov but also far more action-y than Onward. You can also slide by crouching while running which is the best.

Contractors is easily the better option from my perspective. I very much dislike the weird FOV limit thing that happens when you get shot at in Onward, I dislike how difficult it can be to identify teammates let alone tell where they are. I also find the maps in Onward to be pretty mediocre, Contractors definitely has fewer but I think every one of them is better than any of the Onward maps.

Onward does have a better (existing) coop mode so if you want to play with friends against AI that's your only option at the moment. I find the AI in Onward though is really poor, not to say that the bots in contractors are any better. Both just kinda run at you mindlessly. It's just that Onward has a terrorist hunt mode where you have to eliminate all enemies and it also has an evac mode where you have to survive for a certain about of time then get to an extraction point. I've certainly had fun with it but that's the only thing Onward has on Contractors at the moment.

I see a lot of potential in Onward, I feel like if they tried to do more single player stuff they've got the framework to do something akin to the old rainbow six games which would just be awesome. Unfortunately I don't really expect that to happen.

All that said you can get both and just play less than two hours of each and refund the one you like least.

Playing both games - I am happy controls are almost the same. But why not simply copy the Onwards controls and thus try to make it a standard?
I fumble a bit since I play both games. Is there a way to change which buttons does what - so that I can set Contractors up like Onward?

Btw the Gunstock setup rocks! That is simply brilliant.

Onward is closer to Rainbow Six (without the gadgets) and early Squad (but smaller) while Contractors is pretty much CoD.
I wouldn't recommend getting Contractors right now simply because the playerbase is absolutely tiny. Onward isn't exactly doing great either, but it still has doubled the playerbase than what Contractors has. I would hold on on both right now.
Contractors entirely depends on its playerbase, and unfortunately that is where it fails. Onward has some singleplayer stuff, like bots and missions, and the community is similar to Squad's community (pretty much breaths the game, but still helpful and welcoming to newbies)

First time playing today and I have immediately notice how positional 3d audio is bad compared to onward. The voip it needs to be better too because now it does not sound immersive. Please developers implement better 3d positional audio so I can exactly pin point where the enemy is just like it is in onward. Overall it's a fun game.

You do realize recommending to people to avoid the game because of a small player population contributes to that small player count....

Not a very helpful recommendation for an early access title.

The devs need to do a free weekend or a 50-70% off sale and get this game in people's game library.

Yeah, their gun stock calibration is the best out there. Each gun can be individually calibrated as well.

You can customize your controller setup in the stream vr settings. Might want to toy around with that and see if you can get things where you want them.

I own over 100 games in my VR library. Now, I only play one game and that is contractors VR. I have a huge military simulation airsoft background and find that this fills that need for me. To me, this is the best shooter game out there. I own pavlov as well as onward and i’m sorry they cannot compete with this. The action is great the community is unbelievably wonderful. Everyone is so friendly and very helpful. And I am very excited that this game is now a part of the VR master league. The more you play this game the more you’ll understand why it’s becoming more and more popular. The devs should do what ‘oh heck’ suggested by either a free weekend trial or a 50 to 70% off to get this game in more peoples hands to try out. I also agree that the 3-D positional audio need some work. But overall this game cannot be beat.

I'm connecting to the question. Is it worth buying at a discount? Is there anyone to play with? Onward is old and probably overrated. I wonder this or Onward?

Contractors.
It's already great, and is getting substantial updates regularly.

Don't think twice, just buy it and refund it if you won't like it (you will like it).

Last I played onward it was hard to find a room and there is a lot of waiting around. This game is onward like(few bullets to kill) but without the elitest, serious players. Onward seemed to me to play worse the more updates that came out.

This is my go to VR FPS now.

I would say
Onward is like slow Insurgency/Rainbow Six Siege
Pavlov is like Counter Strike
Contractors is like COD/Fast Insurgency

Onwards? Just bought that game and refunded when I noticed it wants to install and forces on me some sht easy anti-cheat spyware crap to be installed as a service, deep into my Windows, with administrator permissions.I do not consent to spying my machine. Refunded it immediately.
