It was bound to happen. Humanity hasn't changed in 000's of years. Sad but true.
"For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing."
I told my wife to buy it and was looking forward to playing coop with her (me on PC and her on the switch).
However I am very disappointed to see that multiplayer for switch requires a nintento membership with a monthly fee. That is not an option for me and I regret to have bought the game for the switch.
I am not sure how much this is a decision done by nintendo rather than the grounded team or if the grounded team has any influence on this at all. For me it is an absolute no-go to pay a monthly fee for a game which I already purchased.
I imagine MS and Obsidian can't say too much on that if the deal to release the game at Nintendo console does not cover that feature. Same with Playsation, if i'm not wrong, that also needs the subscription for Grounded to be playable mp :S
Well I know why I am a PC player.
I also know, but sadly these days there are no pc games (i mean ofc except indies and some small-med studios) and the rest are pc-console games (developed on pc but not exactly for pc, thinking at the future console release) or console games ported to pc.
Grounded was developed at the same time for pc and xbox, but even others only developed on pc are created thinking already in consoles, which affects the pc development (controls, interface, network, even features and depth of the systems depending on the genre of the game)
Now it's all made for consoles directly, or designed with those in mind, giving us sometimes awful UI's and controls even for a game that it's been developed firstly on pc, specially if made for KB+mouse, and tested by early access pc players (ie supported by pc players)
I wish we could see for instance different interfaces for the same game depending if it's a console or a pc version, but even the studios that have big budgets don't do that. Not anymore, at least (and there was a time where some still managed to release visual and functional different interfaces for the same game, when consoles were starting to be really big and universal)
Even apps are made for smartphones and usually don't have a really different pc version as before. It's cheaper to develop and mantein, of course, but also a pain with so many limitations plus the idea that apps know better than us what to do and how to do something (even the operative system does this and forces some of us to have a constant, even daily fight against it), allowing for little customization and hiding the most basic feedback to the user, so when something goes wrong, we don't even know what's happening. A good example are bank apps, were usually we don't know if the bank is not responding, if the app is giving an error, if it's the smartphone os or what. This is reflected on such app's ratings, which tend to be very bad with generic complaints: app does not work! it closes itself and does nothing! lol etc
So while i am a proud pc player and always will be, sadly the line between a pc game and a console one is actually so thin, that usually is non-existent (apart from the graphic settings ofc) And that's a shame, imho.
Uf, sorry fot that, i'm too veteran perhaps lol but i'm afraid that being able to play with other platforms will demand more and more those subscriptions (for ms, sony, nintendo or whatever, look at what is happening lately with Sony ported games...)
Edit: and for this not to be totally off-topic, sorry for that, since this update the collisions in the game are back to their worst state. Objects we can gather (like weapons for example) seem placed off by a bit of distance and buried under the terrain not as before, gathered resources hiding under the ground more than before, controlling the char while swimming is a pain, invisible insects attack you under the terrain again more than before in my experience. World was far more stable before 1.4 imo.
