apply my last post to this this and there you you go.
likely your pet's warp pad at something under it, and the pet was dropped on it, saving it from the death plane killing it, or it dropping out of the map. on the down side, the pet is likely way out of the playable area, and the game don't know how to handle this, so recover does nothing to help.

try 1 of these.
1. load older saves till you get your pet back, then make a save yourself, (keep that save, you may need it). not load the 2ND newest save (the save after the 1 you just maed) and go home to your pet house (if you have 1, make it if not). put your pet into and pet house and the cam should fly down to the pet. wait a bit for the pets zone to load, then take the pet back out. the pet may be sent to you.
if that fails, load the save you maed and play on from there.
2. forget the 1ST one and just load older saves till you have you pet back, then keep playing off that save.

old saves should still work fine.

testing. the last run of the game, i got to 3-5 RL days of play befour a pet disappeared. stand by or test your yourself. if you test yourself, each time the game saves itself, see if your pet is in the game so if your pet is gone, you'll limit the work you'll last for loading an older save and your pet back. if you see your pet icon looking around if your pet isn't close to you, your good to play on. if not, go to your inventory. if the pet button under the sort button (if the sort button, the pet button is right of your inventory's item boxes) is there, you can keep playing. if the pet button is gone, your pet disappeared. load the 2ND newest save to get your pet back.

things on your pet WILL disappear with your disappeared pet, but loading your save to get your pet back will see your pet hole all it had at the time the game saved.

yes. after a time, arrows that are not accessible and other items that are just on the ground will be deleted.
