Antlions are a larva variant and you can't change my mind.
They have similar death poses and burrow under the ground.

Also they are the logical next step in larva evolution

regular larva needs to be dug up in order to fight the player
ladybird larva can dig itself out of the ground on it's own to fight the player.
antlion can use burrowing to directly attack the player

and after all, they are based on the larval stage of antlions os yeah.

the game itself said it cuz it only says "antlion" and not "antlion larva"

Antlion adults are rarely considered, being shy and often not particularly impressive critters that look a bit like damselflies or lacewings.

Certainly the in-game ant-lion would be a larva, not an adult. Calling it a larva 'variant' seems weird zoologically but might make sense in terms of game design. (I'm not to the point of dealing with them yet.)

They're, imo, among the creepiest creatures in game, a close match with spiders. Just like spiders, you eventually get used to them, but the first encounters are kinda traumatic.

You hear them shrieking across the whole sandbox like mad banshees, they have that nasty habit of rising from the sand next to you out of nowhere, they hit hard and tank a lot (unless you exploit their weaknesses), and they heckin' WINK with their multiple eyes while facing you.

It's in terms of game design, if a creature in a video game looks and behaves similarly to one that you alredy encountered before, then you just call it a variant of said creature.
