Minotaur Maze Key Missing

I've gone to the exposed pipe where the minotaur key allegedly is, but it is not there. I swam towards one end, which led me to the hedge lab which i had already completed. I swam towards the other end, encountered a few enemies, cut my way through, and collected raw science, milk molar, and a scab . Am I missing something? I swam back down that end 10 separate times to make sure I wasn't blind but I really cannot find it. If I had collected it, would it have been in my backpack inventory or would it be somewhere in the data tab?
I am playing solo, so it is not a possibility that someone else had picked it up. Sorry for all the spoilers, don't want to ruin it for anyone.

What you are missing is that there are 2 exposed pipes.
