Thanks. I figured that but I came a cross a post where a guy said he screwed up because he befriended them.
I think screwed up in that context is more like "dang now I have to wait till next NG to get what I want."
BUT I am curious on reading this if you are given enough information about the outcomes of each action (befriend, infect, etc.) and the potential rewards to make a decision.
Or is it all learn as you go?
Honestly for how much of a pain the ant queen things are you're probably going to want to read the wiki for them at least. Mostly because if you mess up you have to completely wait until the next NG+ cycle to try again. Also some items to infect certain queens don't show up until a couple NG+ cycles in.
NG+1: Kill the ant queens
NG+2: Infect the ant queens
NG+after that, do whatever you want or ignore them.
I find this to be the best method. By befriending the Ant Queens you gain the AntBassidor mutation, which in turns causes ants to ignore you. Extremely helpful in a regular game, but you also keep this mutation in NG+ from the start, so you can turn it on and off as needed, depending on if you're going to be messing about in ant territory.
