(also there some spots where black ant worker do attack you on sight too, depend on the location you meet them, like upperyard)
What doesn’t make any sense is the black ant and fire ant armor not making the factions neutral when red ant armor does that.
If you're referring to what I think you are that only applies to a small group of enemies, not all fire ants so your reasoning makes little sense here.
They make up the main portion of the army. And they specifically make sure they show you a lot of them on the way to a certain optional boss.
